It’s [ CODE: RED ] for NL
On June 17, 2019 Canada declared a NATIONAL CLIMATE EMERGENCY. With “high confidence“, Canada’s Changing Climate Report (2019) states we “will continue to warm at more than double the global rate”, with damaging effects and weather extremes projected to intensify. However, the good news is if we take action now: We can limit warming – by reducing carbon and other greenhouse gas emissions to near zero without delay or excuses.
THE ARSE IS OUT OF HER!
(!) Nfld & Lab. is at Immediate Risk
“Today’s IPCC Working Group 1 Report is code red for humanity. The alarm bells are deafening, and the evidence is irrefutable: greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel burning and deforestation are choking our planet and putting billions of people at immediate risk. Global heating is affecting every region on Earth, with many of the changes becoming irreversible.“

ALL WE ❤️ IS UNDER THREAT
(!) Trending Towards ‘Societal Collapse’
According to the UN’s 2022 Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction – with 4 out of 9 planetary boundaries appearing to now be operating outside their safe operating space (due to humans interfering with natural systems and safe boundaries) “…it is evident that in absence of ambitious policy and near global adoption and successful implementation, the world continually trends towards the global collapse scenario,“ and that “…total societal collapse is a possibility“.

Common Climate Questions
THE EVIDENCE IS IRREFUTABLE
(!) Avg. Annual Temp. is Increasing
The fact Newfoundland & Labrador is warming emerges from an analysis of the data charting the average temperature by year over the last 70 years – with it clearly showing the average annual temperature in NL has increased since 1950.
Where does this data come from?
The data is from the NOAA/OAR/ESRL PSL, Boulder, Colorado, US; as well as: Fan, Y. and H. van den Dool (2008), A global monthly land surface air temperature analysis for 1948-present, J. Geophys. Res., 113, D01103, doi:10.1029/2007JD008470.
(!) Over 7°C Increase Expected by 2050
Government of Newfoundland & Labrador temperature projections and climate plan [PDF] report the province is expected to experience winters being at least 3 – 7°C, and summers 2 – 3°C, warmer compared to the average annual temperatures from 2000. The speed and magnitude of these changes is being called “significant”, as…
“To put this in perspective, there is only about 5°C difference in today’s (2019) average global temperature compared to the last ice age.“
IMPACTS: The increase “could shorten the winter season by as much as 4 – 5 weeks” and “impact transportation routes“. “Extreme storm events could result in an increase of precipitation by over 20 per cent or more, enhancing the likelihood and magnitude of flooding, and sea levels could rise by a half meter, putting coastal infrastructure at risk.“ In short: IT’S [ CODE: RED ] FOR NL!
LOSS & DAMAGE TO NFLD & LABRADOR
(!) Sea Ice Coverage is Decreasing
“Changes in the amount of sea ice can disrupt normal ocean circulation, thereby leading to changes in global climate. Even a small increase in temperature can lead to greater warming over time, making (these regions) the most sensitive areas to climate change on Earth.” ~NOAA Ocean Facts
Sea ice plays an important role in the climate and ecosystems of Newfoundland & Labrador. For example, sea ice stimulates the growth of phytoplankton, which is at the center of the marine food web; it is a habitat for animals such as seals, Arctic foxes and polar bears; and the white surface reflects far more sunlight back to space than ocean water does (resulting in the weather tending to be colder and drier over ice-covered areas than it would be without ice).
“Labrador Inuit culture, knowledge, livelihood and health is directly connected to the ocean.“ ~Johannes Lampe, President of Nunatsiavut Government

THE TIME FOR ACTION IS NOW
(!) We Can Halve Emissions by 2030
“We are at a crossroads. The decisions we make now can secure a liveable future. We have the tools and know-how required to limit warming,” … “It’s now or never, if we want to limit global warming to 1.5°C.” ~United Nations, April 4, 2022 Full Statement
